    Lindsey,You have inspired me to think a bit about my own retlaionship to Facebook. While I disagree with some of Walter Benjamin's critiques on film and the reproducibility of art forms (and wow, doesn't Facebook represent the reproducibility of expression? It is the epitome of exhibition! Similar to film, I would argue that Facebook attracts the masses; it's intention was never to be viewed by one person or by a few [234] ), I spent ample time with his thoughts on the particular aura of a work of art or experience. Film, Benjamin argues, has been responsible for the decay of the aura (222). The authenticity, authority and retlaionship between the art form and its viewer disappears, caused by the addition of a third party: the cameraperson. I have often felt this sense of emptiness after twenty or thirty minutes of Facebook. I stand up, stretch, notice how much time has passed, and feel a slightly disingenuous connection with those who I just networked with (meaning, I saw their photos, although they did not invite me to; I noted their daily challenge via status update; I merely entertained my senses). There is no aura; there is no passing of energy, or sense of sacredness. I have not been invited to contemplation (238), and indeed I am readjusting to my surroundings, having lost myself in the opening and closing of tabs, the immediate satisfaction of new information, and the dependency on constant, sudden change (238).
